U-M maintains a close relationship with Detroit — not only by establishing various initiatives and learning opportunities, but also by recognizing outstanding contributions to Michigan’s largest city. The University honors exemplary Detroit natives and distinguished contributions to Detroit with three awards: induction into the U-M Detroiter Hall of Fame, the U-M Emerging Leaders Award, and the Outstanding Service Award.

These awards exist to honor distinguished Detroit natives and graduates of U-M who have made recognized contributions to their fields or to the city through service, and to honor U-M faculty or staff who have demonstrated continued and distinguished service to the city of Detroit.
