The University of Michigan Center for Innovation is taking steps to evolve U-M’s deep history in Michigan’s largest city — drive prosperity through multidisciplinary education, industry-relevant research and community-accessible programs that catalyze talent, entrepreneurship and innovation rooted in the city of Detroit.
Its new flagship building, which will come online in 2027, will further a unique mission that’s already impacted thousands of Detroit residents. Today, UMCI plays an increasingly active and urgent role in helping make the Detroit region one of America’s top innovation economies.
Reaching those lofty goals means blending diverse methods to quickly respond to the ever-changing needs of a vibrant community: Youth programs. Workforce development. Community events. UMCI is tapping into the needs of Detroiters to build an innovative ecosystem driven by all ages, interests and backgrounds.
