1. Brightmoor Maker Space selected for Venice Architecture Biennale

    Brightmoor Maker Space, a community workshop space in Detroit co-founded by Stamps Professor Nick Tobier and Detroit Community Schools founder Bart Eddy, has been selected as one of 52 design practices for PORCH: An Architecture of Generosity, the U.S. Pavilion exhibition at the 19th Venice Biennale.


  2. Students create digital timeline chronicling school integration efforts in Detroit

    Two students in Professor Michelle Adams’s Race, Law and History class were so inspired by class readings on school desegregation that they launched a digital project to extend and share their learnings. Now, they hope their work will in turn inspire others to create similar projects all around the country.

  3. U-M SEAS Detroit Sustainability Clinic announces Lemir Teron and Juan Shannon as inaugural Urban Sustainability and Justice Fellows

    The University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability Detroit Sustainability Clinic has launched of its Urban Sustainability and Justice Faculty and Community Fellows Program. The fellowship invites academic scholars from external institutions to connect with the U-M and Detroit communities on advancing smart, actionable and equitable urban sustainability and climate solutions.

      Now through April 21, the Detroit Historical Society hosts an exhibit conceived and curated by U-M architecture Professor Craig Wilkins that examines the significance of the work of Black architects despite systemic challenges.

    3. Poverty Solutions report on Detroit home wealth lauded by Mayor Duggan

      Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan promoted a Poverty Solutions study which shows that Detroit homeowners’ home wealth rose by $700 million in 2023. Detroit homeowners gained nearly a 10% increase in one year, and Black homeowners saw 75% of total gain, amassing $3.2 billion in added home wealth since 2014, nearly doubling in value.

      Jena Brooker, the environment and food reporter for BridgeDetroit gives credit to U-M for inspiring her career with its focus on interdisciplinary academics and her experience managing the U-M Campus Farm.

      Stamps Associate Professor John Marshall and Cézanne Charles, co-founders of the collaborative studio rootoftwo, are the recipients of a 2024 Knight New Work Detroit grant. Their project, 463NCY: A Cyberpunk Cooperative Game.
